20 OCTOBER 2025

In the sun-drenched region of Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand, farmers have historically faced a persistent challenge of water scarcity during the dry season. The primary objective of this crucial project was straightforward: to secure a reliable water source for farmers when they needed it most. By providing consistent access to water, the project aimed to enable the farmers to cultivate essential crops like sugarcane, tapioca, and rice, removing the fear of crop failure due to drought or seasonal water scarcity.

The Heart of the Solution: Vertical Turbine Pumps

The core of the project involved the installation of Franklin Electric Vertical Turbine Pumps (Model: 12FMS-1-8X10-WL-OAL-01). These high-efficiency, robust pumps were coupled with Franklin Electric submersible motors of 15HP and 20HP.

The Central Government Municipal Water Supply undertook a comprehensive survey to identify the best locations for installing the pumps to optimize water extraction and distribution from local water sources.

The pumps’ design was ideal for drawing water efficiently from the available sources in the region, while the powerful 15HP and 20HP motors provided the necessary power to distribute water over extended distances, ensuring it reached even the most remote farming plots.

Installation and Infrastructure

The project required careful infrastructure development, including the construction of purpose-built pump houses and the laying of extensive pipeline systems.

In one location, a stable pump house was constructed on concrete stilts above a water catchment basin. In another, a floating pump station was deployed to access a large reservoir, featuring a protective cage and a stable platform of blue modular floats. This versatility allowed the project to adapt to different geographical challenges across the region.

The precise installation of the vertical turbine motors and the robust piping system ensures reliable, high-volume water transfer, capable of sustaining agricultural demand throughout the harshest dry seasons.

Results and Farmer Impact

Since the completion of the project, farmers in Ubon Ratchathani have experienced a significant improvement in their access to water during the dry season. With a reliable water supply, they have been able to continue cultivating their crops without interruption, regardless of seasonal drought conditions.

Feedback from the local agricultural community has been overwhelmingly positive. Farmers expressed great satisfaction with the results of the project, highlighting the critical role it played in securing their livelihoods. As one farmer remarked:

“If we didn’t have enough water, everything we planted would die, and we wouldn’t be able to harvest anything to sell. This project has given us hope and stability.

The successful deployment of the Franklin Electric vertical turbine pump system has not only solved a persistent problem but has also provided the farming community of Ubon Ratchathani with the stability they need to plan for the future.
